National Association of Foreign-Trade Zones (NAFTZ) releases 2012 Report

The 2012 edition of the annual state-by-state study, The Impact of Foreign-Trade Zones on the 50 States and Puerto Rico, has been released. Fully updated with the most recent data, the study documents the positive impact of the FTZ program on state and local economic development. More than any other single source, this new NAFTZ study reports the companies and the industries that are benefiting from the FTZ program in communities across the United States. It provides detailed data on employment, merchandise received, and exports down to the subzone level, while compiling national rankings of zone activity on a state-by-state basis. This year’s edition also contains an all-new Industry Focus section, which examines the impact of Foreign-Trade Zones on the automotive industry.

The results of this year’s study continue to reinforce our non-partisan message of economic development through the Foreign-Trade Zone program. Most importantly, Foreign-Trade Zones have continued to be a significant source of US employment during challenging times, providing well-paying jobs for over 320,000 Americans in 2010. FTZs also continue to be national export leaders as well, with FTZ export growth significantly outpacing total U.S. export growth.
